December 9, 2010

18 years ago when my oldest granddaughter was just a new born baby, I started a tradition. I made her a hand made wooden ornament. I make one for every grandchld, (I have 12 now), every year. They always have a photo from that year, and it is most often one I took.
We have eight granddaughteres, and four grandsons. The boys ornaments are a lot more masculine than the girls, although they are all rocking horses. I used brads, the rope, and hat on the boys, and the girls are all gussied up with jewels and sequins. I have completed five and have seven to go. I LOVE doing this project each year, for my precious grand kids. These are all original ideas each year....They are all cut on the scrollsaw from 1/4 inch wood. My daughter, Becky, gave me the suggestion to do rocking horses this year. EVERY one is different...no two are the same, just like the kids!

  1. What a sweet tradition! My Granny gave me some handcrocheted (how do you spell that??) snowflakes which are still my favorite ornaments. The tree isn't complete without them. I'm sure they will treasure them one day as I do my snowflakes.

  3. Awww... That is such a sweet tradition. The ornaments are DARLING! I actually make ornaments for our friends every year. It's inexpensive, but meaningful and it's fun to see our ornaments on everybody's trees. This year we're making snow flakes with little white bells. : )
