I caught this photo of Mt Timpanogus on the way home Wednesday evening. It was shot with the PS through a dirty, buggy, windshield, in heavy traffic...thus the strange crop, and the edit. This mountain is located only about 30 minutes from my home, close to the BYU campus. As a child and as a parent, and as a youth leader, I have made many hikes up to a beautiful cave, and also up the back side which gives a breathtaking view, as you hike through meadows of wildflowers, and experience glaciers close up.
There is an Indian legend about the mountain. If you look closely, you can see an Indian maiden along the top of the mountain. Look to the left side. See her hair cascading down? With a little imagination, you can see her profile along the mountain top. Below, you can see the illustration and the story.
"A Young Native American maiden, whose lover had to go to war, climbed to the summit of what is now known as Mount Timpanogos to await his return. But, alas, he was killed in battle and never returned to claim her for marriage. She stayed up on the mountain, still waiting, not knowing of his fate until she eventually died of a broken heart."

ReplyDeleteJust breathtaking! And I see the indian profile as well! We have a mountain about 3 hours north of us that looks like an Indian Chief's profile-- I'll have to take a pic next time i'm in the area.
ReplyDeleteYour P/S does a really nice job. Isn't it nice sometimes not to have to do so much work to get a nice shot like this. I love that you posted the legend picture below to reference to the maiden. I actually saw her without looking at the legend photo first, but it was nice to verify what I was seeing.
