Day 151 Elephants

Yesterday's zoo photo was my favorite, but I have a few more that I want to share, so tonight and tomorrow, will be more zoo shots. This is mama Elephant. I forgot her name. She entertained us by working a little mud puddle. She was throwing mud up onto her back. She was a muddy mess.

This is Zuri....a female calf. She was born in August of 2009. We saw her in November, when she was three months old and she could still walk right under her mama without touching her. She was so little! I got darling pics of her. I was anxious to see how she has grown. She was thowing hay up onto her back, and she was gathering hay and eating it, but she is still nursing too. Her mama shows such affection for her. It is sweet to watch.

I love this shot of Rory examining the skull of a young male African Elephant.

  2. Love the elephant shots. And Rory is one lucky little girl to have a grandma who is doing such a beautiful job of capturing these special moments in her childhood!

  4. It was a cloudy day...ISO was 400, SS 1/400 f/8.0, I was using a 55-250 zoom at 74mm
I felt like I needed the zoom a lot at the zoo, but I struggled with it. I'm becoming a prime girl. My 50mm and 85mm are my faves. They seem easier to get the right exposure. The previous post of Rory was with the 50mm.

  6. WOW! The mama hardly looks real in that first shot. Her eye must be muddied up too? Sooooo cool! And interestingly, the mama doesn't look that much bigger than the baby.

Oh, I see you have an 85mm. Which one? 1.8 or 1.4? How do you like it? I've been debating over one. What type of portraits do you use it for most? Can you use it indoors or is it too much of a telephoto?
